Not Another Banana Bread

Don't give me that look. I know you've seen perhaps what some would consider ENOUGH of banana breads, from this food blog, but I have a seriously legit reason for writing about another Banana Bread.

A) Yes, I had a couple of bananas going off. Let me clarify, it's not because I don't like bananas, I'm even eating a banana as I type this-it's simply because it's not my favourite fruit. It's HIS favourite fruit, which if I don't participate in the banana eating, they will simply get tossed into the bin. We can't have that happening. We can, but we can't.

B) There's a Banana Bread Event taking place at Not Quite Nigella. So you see, I had no choice. How could I possibly not take part after making about 5 Banana Breads since starting this food blog?

C) I love baking and yes, I happen to love baking Banana Breads. Their EASY, their TASTY and I need it for my Cuppa.

So here's my banana bread, it was lovely, not as sensational as my version of Nigella's Banana Bread. You have made it right? Scandalous, if you didn't.

Another Banana Bread

200g of self-raising flour
pinch salt
1/4 tspn bicarbonate soda
75g unsalted butter
100 light brown sugar
1 beaten egg
50g of chopped walnuts
handful of chocolate chips
about 4 cut up strawberries
a Tbspn of golden syrup
2 large ripe bananas, mashed

Set oven at 180C. Grease and line a 1 lb loaf tin.

Sift the flour, salt and soda into a bowl. Add all the other ingredients, except the golden syrup, and beat well together. If the mixture is too dry add a couple of Tbspn of milk.

Spoon into the prepared tin. Bake in the center of the oven for about an hour or until firm in the middle. Leave to cool inside the tin and then turn onto a wire rack.

Brush the top of the loaf with extra golden syrup while it's still warm, to give it a lovely glaze. Serve warm with a touch of butter (or not).

You are now crowned the "Banana Bread Queen"...always lovely to have a slice with your "cuppa". That brought a smile to my face Pixie. Its very English and Aussie that expression! Great addition of the strawberries.

Why not? Banana bread is that good to warrant different takes on it. One of my faves with NY "kawfee" too!

Hey - strawberries ... bananas...why didn't I think of that? I mean I make a banana/strawberry smoothie for breakfast - makes perfect sense. You know, banana bread is a food group - dairy, produce, banana bread ..yup, yup...I always have at least 5 in my freezer at any given time. The real beauty is they often look the same on the outside and are full of surprises on the inside. Yours has a surprise and I love surprises.

There is never such thing as too many banana breads!! And strawberries in banana bread? Brilliant!

OK so I must admit I've never actualy made banana bread. Firstly, my dad inhales bananas like they are air so we never have any lying around; secondly *cough* Idon'treallylikethem and thirdly... I don't have a third point. I might make one and dedicate it to you...

I love the chunks of strawberry in this! I might be tempted to make one of your famed banana breads just to keep my dad happy...

I love it. I posted a recipe a while back for strawberry bread and it was perfect. Good Job.

Too many banana breads? There's no such thing. I'm guilty of trying a new BB recipe almost every month. Once those bananas ripen, they just sort of call our name, don't they?

Adding strawberries to banana bread is a great idea!

my goodness, the banana bread looks divine. Do you think I can use dried
cranberries instead of strawberries which is now out of season....

Pixie said...

Nina, I would recommend the other banana recipe I did last- the chocolate one which had dried cranberries in it soaked in a bit of rum. I'm sure you can try it with this one, but this bread wasn't as moist as the last one. It called for a bit of a bit of butter or jam on it. hth some

Bring on the banana bread! I love it.... though I haven't blogged about it. I suppose I should for this event though.

Love the sound of the strawberries in yours!!!! Yum yum yum!

michelle @ TNS said...

strawberries and chocolate, you say? i may be too straight-laced for strawberries in my banana bread. can i make a sauce out of them instead?

Ruth Elkin said...

Hi Pixie I'm planning to use your recipe either today or tomorrow but wanted to clear something up....

In the recipe you said "Add all the other ingredients except and beat well together" what's the except?

Pixie said...

Hi ruth,
I just changed it- thank you for noticing. I'd recommend the chocolate bread over this one though- it wasn't as moist as I hoped for but felt it would benefit with some jam on top. Hth some

You're welcome.

I'm thinking of making little cupcake versions, researching a topping or filling now. But if I don't come across one I like I might just make it and add some extra banana and strawberry.

Hey Pixie, I used this recipe to make muffins today. They turned out really well! They taste good and are nice and moist. I left out the nuts cos I forgot we didn't have any in the house and I had mixed everything else when I had realised. Anyways i will have it blogged in the next couple of days. Thank you!!!!
