If you were to ask my mum what my favourite dish was growing up, the answer simply would have been liver. Perhaps, that may make me somewhat strange in your eyes but I would always request my mum to make it for all of us. Once in a while, my wish was granted but of course, not everyone loved liver as much as I did in my family. I'm certain I was given the evil eye a few times by my siblings.
Still it's not often that I get to have liver and in fact, I had this liver dish just for myself during lunchtime. Yes, hubby isn't a liver lover but I'll forgive him.
Unfortunately, there is a slight problem, in that I made this ever so VERY tasty chicken liver dish a few weeks back and didn't write any notes on it. Therefore, the recipe is a bit on the 'sketchy' side. Meaning no exact weight of the liver or timing. However, I'm sure you can figure it out for yourselves, that is, if you're a liver lover too.
Fry up a couple of chopped onions in some olive oil, until softened. While the onions are cooking dip chicken livers into a bit of seasoned flour. Add the liver pieces into the pan and brown on all sides. Add half a glass of white wine. Cook on a low heat until the chicken livers are cooked through. Throw in some sliced mushrooms a couple of minutes before turning off. Serve some salad on the side.
This entry is being submitted to Hunter Angler Garden Cook's First Meat & Greet Event. The theme for his first event is 'Offal'. You can find more details about this event HERE. There's also a chance of winning The Good Cook: Variety Meats, edited by Richard Olney. I'm seriously looking forward to seeing this roundup.

I wouldn't say that I am a great liver lover, but I do occasionally enjoy chicken livers and I am sure that I would enjoy this tasty dish. What a great lunch!
gotta say, my mom was the SAME way. i remember being grossed out when she'd OOHHH and AHHH as she ordered liver out somewhere! but now that i'm older and my husband introduced me to offal, i'll never be the same. i think this recipe looks really yummy, but livers are an acquired taste, that's for sure. thanks for the link to the event, i have an old offal recipe i'm going to submit too!
you're always up on all these events, pixie!!
Thanks a heap for entering! Chicken livers are definitely a popular item in this Meat & Greet. Cheers,
h.
instead I hated so much liver when I was young! I didn't want to even sit down at the same table of someone how was eating liver.
then after years (uhhh..I'm old :() I literally adore it.
I really don't understand my change but now I eat it several times!
So thanks a lot for the recipe!
Good night dear
Silvia
That's exactly how my mom would make chicken livers! Oh how I love livers.
Your recipes sounds great. I like chicken liver and I stuff the turkey with liver and nuts and raisins.
I have two recipes with offals ready and I hope to find time and submit at least one of them.
i'm sorry to say that i'm not a liver lover. i think my distaste for it stems from silence of the lambs--"i ate his liver with some fava beans and a nice chianti." however, i do still like fava beans. :)
This liver dish looks very similar to how Greeks prepare it (minus the mushrooms). I wouldn't have a problem with it, every now and then ...but not regularly.
My mom would serve us liver when we were kids but it was like chewing on boot leather it was so well done:D
You liked liver as a child? Wow...this is a whole new dimension of Pixie. Interesting.
i seriously applaud people who eats liver. i can't stand liver, but will tolerate pate, weird huh?
You were an adventurous kiddo then! I could never get past the smell.
We have chicken livers and liver & onions at the restaurant where I work. They're very popular!
I'm not anti liver, but I need to work on liking it.
Pixie, I wish I liked liver (really I do) because each time I smell it being cooked, it gets me dreamy but then I taste it...back to square one.
I'm sure this is a liver-luvah's dream! lol
I *hated* liver as a kid - even the smell of it would make me have to go to a friend's house for tea!
But my dad has been trying to persuade me to try again... and your dish does look good :)
I've not really had liver before, not that I know of anyway. I've always been one of those people who think eww when someone suggests eating liver but then I remember my husband saying "If you'll eat the rest of the animal why not that? I mean if its died for it then you might as well make the most if it"...something along those lines anyway and I suppose in that way it makes sense. So I might just have to try some and see what its like.
I don't think I've ever had a straight-up liver dish, but I have always enjoyed it in mousse/pate form. Perhaps it is time for me to expand my horizons a bit...
ewwwww liver!
I love LIVER! In Azerbaijan we use lamb, beef and chicken liver to make pater, or stir-fries. in fact, I was thinking to post one of those recipes sometime soon on my blog. You encouraged me more:) Love your recipe!
We all love liver! Funny, I'm putting my fave liver dish up on the Blog soon - good old liver, bacon and onions!
Cheers
David
I'm not a liver lover, hehe. That looks good, but it's a textural thing, I guess. Maybe just thinking about what it is makes it hard to eat. I remember my mom cooking liver when I was a kid--she never made me eat it. whew!
I like liver (oddly enough) but I don't think I would ever try cooking it for my family. I do sneak chicken livers into my Bolognese Sauce and no one seems to know!
Same here! My mother fed us som many liver and egg dishes as kids that now I have a hard time eating either. Re-phrase that: I'll do liver in pates, foie gras, confits (not to sound fancy)and all that but still have a hard time with a straight cut of liver...unless there is a good dose of cream, mustard and onions...:)
I loved liver, too - still do! Were we separated at birth?? ;-)
One teeny tiny problem with blogging about liver - it doesn't photograph terribly well, does it? I think you've done a great job, considering!
I cannot say that I enjoy liver at all. My mom absolutely loves calf's liver smothered in onions. I...I just can't do it. I do use chicken livers in dirty rice, but I have never made them a prominent protein in a dish.
I'll say this though Pixie, your pix look very appetizing, but...I dunno...:-)
I LOVE liver! I am a liver lover! I love lover as much as you love liver you liver lover!
Hola Beauty! I love chicken livers too! But I can't stand lamb, or veal or pork's liver. My mother forced us to eat once a week when we were kids and it was horrible!!!!
Have a great weekend :D
I haven't had liver since I was a tiny kiddo, but this looks so delicious. I actually thought it was a stroganoff when I first glanced at the picture, but was pleasantly surprised at the discovery that it was liver. I don't often see it featured on many blogs, so it's very refreshing to find a recipe like this :).
Now this would be one dish my hubby would enjoy! He loves liver & onion gravy too :)

Pixie you have just evoked beautiful fond memories of when I was pregnant with my son. I used to love fried liver with onions during my pregnancy and you can't get better iron than that!

Wow, I'm superduperamazed that I'm not the only lover liver in the world. LOL am very pleased I blogged about it now! even though, i had a few ewww's :-)
my husband adores liver. I had to do some liver enzyme biology labs as a kid and never got over the smell, as such, i might have to keep your post secret from him. j/k.
I was never much of a liver person until a few years back. I started making this mean 'CHOPPED LIVER' with Black Truffle Oil. I just may enter it. I hadnt heard about this ebent. Your dish looks so tasty.
BTW.Thanks for the tip on the special Hoilday.I'm going to hold back a while aand see what evolves.
