I remember being 10 and begging my mum to take us to McDonalds. The answer was usually and always a flat out NO. No it was, so she would always provide us with her homemade burgers. When you're 10, you want Micca D's (McDonalds) you don't want your mother cooking you a burger! Well times change, and you grow up to realize that mum was right in making us her own burgers. She didn't make them quite as large as I make mine. After all, she had to feed all five of us kids.
If you've been to Silver Spurs or Jackson Hole Wyoming in NY, you will likely order yourself a large burger and there are various ones you can choose from. My favourite burger has always been a Blue Cheese Burger. It takes skill and loose trousers to get through one of those NY Burgers. So, though, yes my burgers are quite LARGE but they don't compare to the ones they serve you up in the diners.
Blue Cheese & Mushroom Burger
Ingredients
(makes 3 large burgers)
500g mince meat
1/2 onion chopped fine
handful of chopped parsley
3 tablespoons of a good sauce (my fav is Peter Lugar sauce but you can't buy it in the uk!)
1 crushed garlic clove
2-3 tablespoons of breadcrumbs
1 egg
salt and pepper
blue cheese or cheddar
Burger Buns
On the Side
handful chopped mushrooms
chopped onion
chopped lettuce
sliced tomato or two
Pickles (I would have pickles on the side but I don't like the pickles here!)
Optional
Homemade French Fries
Simply combine all the ingredients together for your burger and fry for about 10-15 minutes on each side, depending on how well cooked you like your burger. Place the cheese about 5 minutes prior to turning off heat.
On the side, cook the onions first for about 5 minutes and then add your musrooms for a few more minutes.
Grill your Burger Buns 5 minutes prior to burgers being ready.
Serve with French fries or Salad.
Undo the top button of your jeans and Enjoy!

This is definitely some burger!!!! I think as we grow older our palate changes..there are 2 things I used to not like mushrooms and blue cheese...but now I LOVE both!!!!
Just made some burgers yesterday and guess what I had some picallily pickles I brought with me from Cyprus.
BTW check your e-mail, I sent a link to you.
Pixie, this burger kicks some "serious donkey"!
I too whined for McD's and I used to get the "our homeburgers are better than that S**T" lecture.
Funny, our mom's were right...we now refer to the Golden arches ads "Rotten Ronnie's".
Oh man YUMMEH! My fave! I'm making sliders today for the Super Bowl and I am definitely putting blue cheese on them now.
Great looking burger!
